Vox.com contributor Kelsey Piper calls it the “best 10-year-challenge, yet:” humanity.
In referencing the trending social media challenge in which then-and-now photos are shared showing how users have changed, or aged, over the past 10 years, Piper reports that some things have changed for the better here on Earth.
Extreme poverty, child mortality, and youth illiteracy are all down, while life expectancy is up.
Globally, extreme poverty has fallen from 18.1% to 8.6% from 2008 to 2018; child Mortality is down to 3.9% from 5.8%; youth illiteracy has dropped from 11.3% to 8.6%; and life expectancy has increased nearly 2.5-years from 69.8 to 72.2 years, according to statistics from World Bank, the UN, UNDP, and UNESCO.
How have things changed for the better in your life? What do you hope will get better in the next ten years?
