Chicago Named Number 1 City for Bed Bugs
  • Chicago has dethroned Washington D.C. as the country’s number one city for bed bug infestations.
  • Orkin pest control’s annual “Top 50 Bed Bug Cities” list places the Windy City at number one, knocking the nation’s capitol to its previous spot of number three. Orkin officials blame the bed bug problem on Chicago’s high number of annual visitors — 48 million — and a transit system that carried 1.7 million passengers every day.
  • Making the biggest jump on this year’s list is Toledo, which climbed 23 spots to number 27. The top five cities also include Baltimore, which finished at number two; Detroit, which climbed three spots to number four; and Columbus at number five.
  • Which came first: the bed, or the bed bug?
