- Thirty years after its original release, the Nine Inch Nails classic “Head Like a Hole” has found a new generation of fans — thanks in part to Miley Cyrus.
- A parody of the song appears in the new Black Mirror episode “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too,” which stars Cyrus as a pop star caught in a vicious cycle of fame. The episode wraps up with a clip of the original playing under the closing credits. Since the June 5th premiere of the popular Netflix show’s latest season, the Trent Reznor tune has seen a 300 percent jump in views on YouTube. That’s an average of 40,000 views per day.
- Whether some of the viewers were disappointed is difficult to say. The version Cyrus’ character performs is called “On a Roll” and features lyrics like, “Hey there, whoa ho, I’m on a roll.” Series creator Charlie Booker received permission from Reznor before rewriting the song.
- What’s your favorite episode of Black Mirror? What’s the worst cover version of a song you’ve ever heard?
