Three new Illinois laws are aimed at protecting illegal immigrants in the state. One of the measures puts an end to any development of private, for-profit detention centers in the state. It also prevents financial transactions by local governments with such a facility except to provide basic services. Governor J.B. Pritzker also signed a bill keeping state and local law enforcement agencies from enforcing immigration laws on behalf of the federal government. Students in the country illegally were also provided access to state-funded financial aid.
