Democrats at the Illinois Capitol say they don’t want to wait any longer to give some workers in the state a raise.  The Illinois Senate yesterday approved a 15-dollar-an-hour minimum wage.  The plan’s author, state Senator Kimberly Lightford, said it shouldn’t have taken so long to agree on a plan.  Business groups say the higher minimum wage will kill jobs.  Governor Pritzker says he supports the idea.  The Illinois House will vote on the idea next.

Officials said Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 that preliminary test results show the possible presence of Legionella bacteria in the Illinois Capitol Complex’s hot water system. Experts at the Illinois Department of Public Health say the complex is safe for state employees to work, and they’re not aware of any reports of Legionnaires’ disease related to the water system. More testing is underway and results are expected in about 14 days. (AP Photo/Seth Perlman File)
