UPDATE :

WJOL is confirming that Costco is coming to Plainfield/Joliet. The membership only warehouse retailer will build a new store at the interchange of I-55 and Route 30 on the Plainfield and Joliet border. Both municipalities are being tight-lipped about the deal in deference to Costco who is expected to make the announcement soon.

The project will include not just the warehouse store but will also include other retail and restaurant opportunities. It is also understood that most of the development will take place within Plainfield’s boundary due to most of the land falling within their city limits. Currently the closest Costco Wholesale would either be located in Bolingbrook on Boughton Road or in Naperville on Route 59.

Is Costco coming to Joliet? Rumors are once again circulating that membership only warehouse retailer may be building a new store at the interchange of I-55 and Route 30 on the Plainfield and Joliet border. When asked about the reports on Tuesday afternoon, Joliet Mayor Bob O’Dekirk did not say yes… but he didn’t say no either.

He told WJOL on Tuesday afternoon “I really don’t know what non disclosure agreements have been signed but it’s usually the case with retail that they want to make the announcement themselves so I probably can’t go any further then that.”

It is believed that the project will include not just the warehouse store but will also include other retail and restaurant opportunities. It is also understood that most of the development will take place within Plainfield’s boundary due to most of the land falling within their city limits. Currently the closest Costco Wholesale would either be located in Bolingbrook on Boughton Road or in Naperville on Route 59.
