• It looks like we won’t have to wait another eight years for a new Metallica record, because drummer Lars Ulrich told NME that the band may attempt to record new music “at some point this fall”.
  • The big recording problem for Metallica, though, involves the technology available while the pandemic continues.  Ulrich revealed “The hardest thing about being in four different spaces is there’s no software that can have us all play in real time together.”
  • Ulrich hates that the band can’t jam together, saying playing studio tracks separately “takes the impulsivity and the momentary energy” out of recording.
  • In the meantime, Metallica’s drummer seems to be doing his part to stop the spread of COVID-19, saying that “wearing a mask is not only a pleasure, it’s a privilege.  It’s the responsible thing to do if you care about the people around you.”
  • How soon until we hear that Metallica has helped design “COVID-friendly” studio recording software?  What do you think of Lars Ulrich’s comments on masks?
