One of the best-selling albums of all time, Metallica’s ‘Black Album’, is celebrating its 28th birthday.
The album, which is technically self-titled but is known as the ‘Black Album’ due its signature black cover, was released on August 12th, 1991 and helped the band reach a much more mainstream audience.
But the album wasn’t an easy one to make. It took eight months to complete, marked by constant battles with producer Bob Rock.
Today, the ‘Black Album’ has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and has spent 307 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart.
Where does the ‘Black Album’ rank on the all-time rock albums list? Why was it such a huge seller?
