New Bills To Affect Illinois Teachers

Several new bills awaiting Governor J.B. Pritzker’s signature are set to affect both prospective and current Illinois teachers. Two would do away with the basic skills test as a licensing requirement for new teachers, at least temporarily. The Senate bill version of one of the bills also allows student teachers to be paid. Another bill would allow retired teachers to return to work in subjects where there is a shortage without affecting their retirement benefits.
