The Illinois Department of Public Health says the number of opioid deaths in the state decreased in 2018 for the first time in five years. IDPH officials spoke before the Illinois Senate Committee on Opioid Crisis Abatement yesterday about the department’s plan to help fix the crisis. The plan focuses on prevention, treatment, and recovery and response. Health officials say that while the state is showing progress, more needs to be done.
