The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that bridge deck patching and pavement repairs on westbound Interstate 80 between Briggs Street and the Des Plaines River bridge, in Joliet, will require lane closures, weather permitting, from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5.

In order to complete the work, westbound I-80 will be reduced to one lane through the work zone. Motorists should expect significant delays and allow extra time for trips through this area.

Work will include repairs to the bridge decks over Chicago Street (Illinois 53/52), Gardner Road, Hickory Creek and Richards Street. Additionally, the entrance ramp from Richards Street to westbound I-80 will be closed. Motorists are advised to use the Chicago Street entrance ramp to westbound I-80 as an alternative route.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
