Returning NBA Players to Sport High-Tech COVID-19 ‘Smart Rings’
  • When NBA players return to the court in Orlando to finish the season, fans might notice they have a fashion accessory in common. They’ll be issued “smart rings” that reportedly predict COVID-19 three days in advance, according to league officials.
  • While the ring might sound like an Internet scam offering, experts say it’s 90 percent accurate. It works by monitoring the wearer’s body temperature, heart rate and respiratory functions, all of which can be affected when someone contracts the coronavirus.
  • Players will also sport MagicBands, just like the ones Disney World gives to resort guests to allow them access to various attractions. However, the NBA’s MagicBands will also be used as tracers in the event of an outbreak by tracking the wearer’s interaction with others, the NBA reports.
  • Should these smart rings be distributed to everyone in the country? Do you feel it’s safe for NBA players to return to the court?
