Shutdown Blamed for Delays at Major Airports

- The delays are due to staff shortages at air traffic control centers near Washington and Jacksonville, Florida – and airports in Atlanta, New York, New Jersey, Orlando, and Philadelphia have been affected.
- Trish Gilbert, executive vice president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, points to the ongoing partial government shutdown, telling CNN, “You can’t mess with a system that is so integral to the United States,” adding “This is reckless, what has been going on with the shutdown.”
