Shutdown Blamed for Delays at Major Airports

    January 25, 2019 2:25PM CST
    Share

    • Flying anywhere today? You might need to push back your plans with flights delays occurring at major airports.
    • The delays are due to staff shortages at air traffic control centers near Washington and Jacksonville, Florida – and airports in Atlanta, New York, New Jersey, Orlando, and Philadelphia have been affected.
    • Trish Gilbert, executive vice president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, points to the ongoing partial government shutdown, telling CNN, “You can’t mess with a system that is so integral to the United States,” adding “This is reckless, what has been going on with the shutdown.”
    • According to a spokesperson, the White House is aware of the situation.
    • Have you put off flight plans due to the shutdown? Do you think the length of the shutdown will cause many federal workers to look for private sector jobs?
