Stormy Memorial Day Long Weekend

Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are expected through the weekend. For the Friday through early Saturday period, while scattered showers and storms are possible in the morning, the highest chance for more widespread storms and heavy rain will be late in the day through the early morning hours of Saturday, particularly over northwest and north central Illinois.Saturday afternoon may end mostly dry but then another round of thunderstorms with heavy rain appears possible in the evening/night through early Sunday. Considering the saturated soil and elevated river levels, this additional rain could cause sharp river rises and flooding, with flash flooding possible during the most intense rainfall rates.
