White House Agrees to Open Government for Three Weeks

- The US Senate is expected to approve a measure today to reopen the federal government after the White House agreed to sign it.
- The continuing resolution would reopen the federal government for three weeks, until February 15, ending the longest shutdown in U.S. government history.
- One-quarter of the federal government has been closed since the impasse began on December 22.
- The Hill reports that both Senator Majority leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer expect the CR to pass and be signed by the President.
- Earlier today the Boston Red Sox said it was postponing its planned February 15 White House visit because of the shutdown.
- Do you think a three-week CR is a good idea? Do you think a long term agreement can be reached before February 15.
