Chicagoland is bracing for a winter storm this weekend. The National Weather Service says there is a chance of heavy snow, with five to nine inches expected. A winter storm warning goes into effect this afternoon for Lake IL-DuPage-Cook- including the cities of Waukegan, Wheaton, and Chicago and 7 pm for La Salle-Kendall-Grundy-Will-Kankakee-Livingston-Lake IN-Porter- including the cities of Ottawa, Oswego, Morris, Joliet, Kankakee, Pontiac, Gary, and Valparaiso until noon tomorrow. Travel could be very difficult with strong winds resulting in blowing and drifting snow.

Snow is expected to develop over northern Illinois by late Friday afternoon, then spread south into the evening hours. Right now, snowfall totals through midday Saturday look to be four to eight inches north of Interstate 88, with locally higher amounts possible. South of Interstate 88, snow amounts will be three to seven inches. The Friday evening commute could be rough for roads north of Interstate 88 due to the snow.
